I'm guessing you've all role-played before, but to newbies...

You talk by using speech marks, for example:

"Hello, I think you're awesome!"

You think by using italics:

No I don't, you're a fucking prick.

(Make sure you don't use internet language in the rp, please.)

You move by using asterisks.

*walks towards the academy* (Use asterisks if you role-play in present-tense)

OR

You can move by writing normally. Like

He walked towards the academy. (This is good for past-tense role-playing)

You can use past or present tense, but I'd prefer past. Also, if you're extreme, you can roleplay in first person.
